Are the essential oils I’m using safe?
For over two years I’ve been using peppermint oil from “NOW personal care” for many uses. Usually I use a small amount (whatever is on the rim of the bottle, not an actual drop) and place it on the back of my tongue for fresh breath. I’ve also used it directly on my skin several times for headaches and muscle aches. Today I purchased lemongrass oil (the same brand, 100% pure) and I was reading about its uses but was really worried when I read all of the harms it can cause if you don’t use this particular oil, and others, in a certain way.
I’m wondering if I’ve possibly been harming my body with my use of peppermint oil even though I haven’t really seen any signs of harm itself, and I’d also like to know the safe ways to further use these oils, especially the lemongrass.
If it is true essential oil then it is not wise to ingest any of them. Essential oil is for external use only except if you are under the care of a professionally trained aromatherapist. Essential oils are super powerful concentrates. They have to be processed by the elimination organs. If you ingest or use too much it could overtax the body elimination and cause problems. Also essential oil can burn if it is not diluted in carrier oil. If you ingest it, it could be burning/irritating your throat.
